The Dogs

These dogs are part of the team and an integral part in developing the training of others

Howie

Howie is a 12-year-old Labrador that came home as an adult dog. Although quirky in some ways, he has proven to be worth his weight in gold as a trainer’s companion.

Howie’s favourite activities are long naps on the couch and swimming.

Howie has played a vital role in the rehabilitation of dog-reactive dogs. Although he is mostly retired now, his gentle, patient and forgiving nature makes him ideal for building confidence with shy dogs and puppies.

Quinn

Quinn is a 16-year-old Border Collie, Maggie’s first dog to raise from a puppy, and has proven to be very challenging in some ways.

Quinn’s favourite activities are sleeping in the sun, swimming and bushwalks.

Using the power of hindsight, Quinn dealt with several behavioural issues as a young dog related to her fear of people, dogs, and the outside world, as well as a lack of impulse control and an inability to control her arousal levels.

She is now an overall well-adjusted dog and is enjoying her twilight years.

Ted

Ted is a 5-year-old Labrador and embodies everything a good Labrador should be. He is high-energy, social, and easily motivated, making him fun to train.

Ted’s favourite activities are sniffing and eating, in any context.

Ted came home at 3 years old as a foster child, but it was clear early on that he had to stay. We developed an instant connection, and he showed promise as a helper dog. Ted is now my right-hand man when working with client dogs.

We are also pursuing training towards obedience and tracking goals this year.

Shoresy

Shoresy is a 1-year-old Kelpie x American Staffy. He came home as a puppy and has been a joy to raise.

Shoresy’s favourite activities are running, playing tug, following his nose and wrestling with Ted.

The focus of Shoresy’s training is to help him live the biggest life possible and pursue sports for fun. We are currently training in agility and scent detection. As a young dog, we are in the process of actively developing him into the dog he will become.
